The issue of female representation on our cinema screens has been a topic of much discussion during the last few years, but the way women are treated behind the scenes hasn’t been covered to a great degree. Well, those dark, silent days are now behind us. A new Tumblr blog has lifted the veil to expose the everyday sexism many endure while trying to earn a living in the film and television industry.

At the aptly titled ‘Shit People Say To Women Directors (& Other Women In Film)’, numerous anonymous women reveal the terrible, horrible, very bad, no good things that men have said to them on set and in the boardroom.

Sadly, it’s awfully predictable. And comically uncouth. “Are you a lesbian? I’ve never seen a straight girl use power tools,” observes a delightful male director.  “Your bitch is showing,” one charming producer points out. Another gets straight to it: “I think…” – wait for it, this is so elegant in its simplicity – “we should fuck.”

You get the drift.
