The formidable Brazillian acting dynasty of mother/daughter actors Fernanda Montenegro and Fernanda Torres venture into a sandy wilderness in this epic saga of three generations of women forging a new life. The House of Sand is set and was filmed entirely on the coast of northern Brazil, inside Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, a veritable universe of dry, swirling white dust. The harsh landscape is not just the setting for the women’s struggles, but the object of their resentment, their fear and, ultimately, their love.
