Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige confirmed the news in an interview with BBC.
"Captain Marvel's shooting right now with Brie Larsen," he said. "Ms. Marvel which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero inspired by Captain Marvel is definitely sort of in the works."
Feige gave no further details but suggested it will follow the Captain Marvel movie set for release in 2019.
Ms Marvel first appeared as Kamala Khan character in the Marvel universe in 2014, swapping identities with Carol Danvers, who is now Captain Marvel but had been Ms Marvel since 1977.
