Natasha Richardson has died from head injuries sustained in a skiing accident, her husband\'s publicist has confirmed.
A statement released on behalf of the family said: "Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."
As reported yesterday, 45 year-old Richardson fell during a private skiing lesson on a beginners trail at the Mont Tremblant ski resort in Quebec on Monday. She did not show any immediate signs of injury but later complained of a headache (it is understood that she was not wearing a helmet when she fell). An ambulance was summoned and she was taken to a nearby hospital, before she was transferred to the intensive care unit at the Hopital du Sacre-Coeur in Montreal. Neeson flew to her bedside from the Toronto set of his new film Chloe.
She was later brought home to New York, where members of her family converged at her hospital bedside.
Richardson was born into the legendary Redgrave acting dynasty, and was the eldest daughter of late Oscar-winning director Tony Richardson (Tom Jones) and Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave, and the granddaughter of Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson. Her aunt was Lynn Redgrave, her uncle Corin Redgrave, and her sister, Joely Richardson, is also an actress (Nip/Tuck). Trained as a stage actor, Natasha worked on several television films before making her screen debut as Mary Shelley in Ken Russell\'s Gothic. Notable film roles include her portrayal of kidnapped heiress-cum-vigilante Patty Hearst , and roles in The Handmaid\'s Tale, The Comfort of Strangers and The White Countess.
