Slow West

What's it about?Set at the end of the 19th century, Slow West follows Jay, a 17-year-old Scottish aristocrat who travels to American West to look for his former lover. Faced with the brutal frontier environment, he teams up with a rough and mysterious traveler, who soon discovers that Jay’s old flame has a price on her head. Together, they make their way through the wilderness, while trying to stay one step ahead of the bounty hunters.

What's it about?British comedian and activist Russell Brand joins forces with director Michael Winterbottom on a documentary about the financial crisis. Starting with the genesis of today’s economic policies, the film explores how these policies have come to dominate the western world. Using a mixture of documentary, interviews, archive footage and comedy, Russell Brand takes us from his hometown Grays in Essex, to the heart of London ‘City’ and on to the Big Apple.

Rumours start swirling about what could have happened to children and, with temperatures rising and the chances of survival plummeting with each passing day, Catherine and Matthew find themselves pushed to the brink.

The Nightingale

What's it about?An old Chinese peasant returns to his home village to set his pet bird free, as promised to his wife. His granddaughter Renxing, a spoiled city child, is forced by her busy parents to stay with him and therefore finds herself going along on his trip from Beijing to Yangshuo. During their journey, those two diametrically opposed characters learn from each other, share memories and adventures.

What's it about?In 1992, during the war in Georgia, Apkhazeti region. Local Apkhazians are fighting to break free from Georgia. When two soldiers are wounded during a conflict in a deserted village, they are rescued by two local men who take them in their house. The problem is that the two soldiers are from opposite sides of the war: Ahmed is a Chechen soldier, while Niko fights for the Georgian side. Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2015 Academy Awards.

What's it about?Academy Award-winner Alex Gibney turns his gaze to Scientology in Going Clear, based on the book of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright. Gibney profiles eight former members of the Church of Scientology, which includes Hollywood celebrities, shining a light on how the church cultivates true believers, including their experiences and what they are willing to do in the name of religion.

This marks the start of their vertiginous and dangerous ascension to fame.
