In Ma Vie En Rose, Ludovic, played by young Georges du Fresne, is a boy aged 7, but he`d rather be a girl. In fact, when he grows up he`d like to marry Jerome, the son of his father`s boss. His dad, upwardly mobile and very ambitious, has just moved his family - Ludo has three siblings - into a fashionable suburban house close to that of his employer, and he`s not thrilled when, at the house warming, his son shows up in a dress. But Ludo won`t be deterred in his obsession with femininity... Alain Berliner`s quite charming comedy neatly depicts the shockwaves that emanate throughout a small, conservative community when a child too young to know better refuses to conform. For much of its length, the film is a chucklesome delight, and young Du Fresne is a charmer as the determined Ludo. Unfortunately, some misguided fantasy scenes involving Ludo`s beloved barbie doll tend to become irritating, and detract from what is otherwise a sharply observed social comedy.
