Calle 54 is a one and three quarter hour tribute to Latin Jazz music featuring some of its greatest exponents, conceived, narrated and directed by Fernando Trueba. Not that there`s a lot of narration, Trueba introduces each player and then let`s them do their thing. And their thing is fabulous. The music, the musicians are treated with such respect, this film is an act of love. The musicians featured include Tito Puente who died last year, Gato Barbieri, Bebo Valdes, Paquito d`Rivera, Jerry Gonzalez, Michael Camilo and more, backing musicians include Hilton Ruiz and Dave Valentin...It`s a film that lovers of Latin Jazz must rush to see and others should be in their wake, ready to be converted. The music was recorded under pristine conditions at the Sony music studios in New York. This film is something special.
