Polar Express, The Review

Based on the much loved children?s book by Chris Van Allsburg, The Polar Express stars Tom Hanks in several major roles, thanks to the latest motion capture technology, Performance Capture. It?s Christmas Eve and Hero boy ? played by Hanks - is restless with doubts about the reality of Santa. Just before midnight The Polar Express appears outside his door and the conductor ? Hanks - ushers him aboard. He joins a group of children on an exciting yet terrifying journey to the North Pole.The Polar Express feels and looks more like a computer game with its creepy rendering of the human form. No matter how advanced this technology has become there is still a mannequin like quality to the characters. The sheer spectacle of the film is overwhelming and at times quite abrasive. Polar Express is a disturbing cinema experience that remains difficult to emotionally connect with. Maybe this is the real Nightmare before Christmas.
