Ron Perlman gives a perfectly deadpan performance as Hellboy – a world weary, sensitive and loveable demon, whose mission is to fight evil monsters. This could have been a predictable good versus evil, effects driven film, but remaining true to its comic book roots, Hellboy is funny, pulpy and appealing.
