Rush Hour would have to be the first action buddies movie to star a black American - Chris Tucker - and an Asian - Jackie Chan. But what an Asian. Chan is one of the most loved movie stars in the world and Tucker hasn`t stopped talking since Samuel L. Jackson threw him in the boot of a car in Jackie Brown. Tucker is a lone wolf with the LAPD, he`s cocky, arrogant and never shuts up so when the daughter of the Chinese consul is kidnapped and the FBI want someone to sidetrack and distract the detective from Hong Kong played by Chan, Tucker`s the chosen one... You expect action and humour from a Jackie Chan film and Rush Hour delivers on both counts. Chris Tucker`s voice could remove paint from brick walls but he settles down to acceptable volume after a while which is what the film is really all about, the taming of this loose cannon by the zen approach of the oriental detective. Director Brett Ratner had only directed one other feature before this, Money Talks which starred Chris Tucker, Ratner has extensive experience in the video clip industry. Rush Hour is a no-brainer which is reasonably easy to enjoy.
