Adapted from Frank Miller's graphic novels, the stunning neo-noir Sin City , which was nominated for the Palme d'Or and won the Technical Grand Prize in Cannes, is a perfect fusion of comic book art and film. The first of the three stories follows policeman John Hartigan (Bruce Willis), who tries to save a young girl from the sadistic son of a Senator. In The Hard Goodbye, tough guy Marv (Mickey Rourke) scours the city to avenge the death of prostitute Goldie. Meanwhile, private investigator Dwight (Clive Owen) will stop at nothing to protect the ladies of the night against vengeful cops.

One day, he reveals to a fellow student his groundbreaking work on the re-animation of fresh corpses. However, his obsession soon sends him further into madness. From Dusk Till Dawn

(USA, action/crime/cult/horror, 1996)

MA15+
Director: Robert Rodriguez
Starring: George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Salma Hayek
What's it about?
This pulpy horror movie has become a cult classic since its release in 1996, due in no small part to the legendary scene where Salma Hayek dances sensually with a snake writhing around her curvaceous body. Quentin Tarantino (who wrote the screenplay) and George Clooney star as two dangerous outlaws, who after kidnapping a family, head south to a seedy Mexican bar to hide out in safety. However, they soon realise that the entire place is teeming with vicious, blood-sucking vampires and that they will have to team up with their own hostages if they want to survive this giant splatter fest.
