While Salma Hayek's torrid dance scene remains for many fans a highlight of Robert Rodriguez's (Sin City) cult classic, there's a whole lot more to enjoy in this vampire road movie with great performances by a star-studded cast and a clever script by Quentin Tarantino.

In this stylish and sexy vampire movie by the director of the The Wave, 18-year-old Lena is turned into a vampire by Louise, leader of a beautiful and deadly female vampire trio. While at first, she enjoys the freedom, the luxury and the parties that come with her new lifestyle, the murderous blood-lust of the other vampires soon proves too much for her. When she falls in love with Tom, a young undercover cop, she decides to leave the group, but she quickly faces the wrath of Louise, who's in love with her and is intent on not letting any of it happen.

Space Battleship Yamato is based on the successful 1974 Japanese sci-fi anime series of the same name, which had often been referred to as the Japanese response to Star Trek. In 2199, humans live underground as a mysterious alien enemy, has been decimating the Earth to unlivable and irradiated conditions, and they only have a year until extinction. One day, former pilot Susumu Kodai finds out about a technology which could eradicate the radiation from Earth. The crew of the space battleship Yamato set out on a journey to planet Iscandar to find it.

Iron Sky

What's it about?
In 1945, when Nazis realise they are losing the war, they decide to flee the Earth to the dark side of the Moon, until they can reclaim the Earth again. The opportunity presents itself 70 years later, when two wayward astronauts and an impending American presidential election (including a Sarah Palin-esque candidate) bring them back from the beyond. Finnish director Timo Vuorensola raised a great part of the movie budget through crowdfunding and has recently successfully repeated the operation for Iron Sky 2, which promises no less than shape-shifting lizards and Hitler riding a T-Rex.

Faced with the upheaval of moving home, an abusive stepfather and the general unpleasantness surrounding Franco's victory in 1944, a litte girl, Ofelia, lives in an imaginary world in a bid to escape. One night, a fairy appears to her and takes her to an old faun in the center of the labyrinth. He tells her she's a princess, but must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks. A visually stunning fairy tale for adults, which won several Oscars and was a huge commercial success, despite its very dark themes and decidely non-Hollywood ending.
Milocrorze: A Love Story

What's it about?
Three interconnected stories, all revolving around love: a seven-year-old boy, who lives in a colourful, psychedelic world, falls in love with a much older woman he met at the park, but is heartbroken when she leaves him for an adult man. Thirty years later, he meets her again by chance while on holiday. An obnoxious counsellor breaks into disco Travolta-style choreographies inbetween each telephone consultation. A one-eyed ronin looks for the love of his life, who was kidnapped and put to work in a brothel, and no small amount of blood will be spilled in his vengeful quest. All characters are played by the same actor, Takayuki Yamada, in this utterly original and crazy unidentified film object.

A pair of young genetic scientists, Clive and Elsa, are assigned the task of mixing animal genes for their employer, N.E.R.D. Pharmaceuticals. They have ambitions to take their research into the human realm but are fordbidden to do so by their employer. Of course, they secretly continue their experimentations and create a hybrid human. The result is Dren, an amazing, strangely beautiful creature, who grows and learns at an accelerated rate. Both Clive and Elsa form a strong emotional bond with Dren, but these ambiguous relationships are soon spiralling out of control. A horrific and disturbing take on parenting.

What's it about?
Tailing Splice is the mysterious and eerie Norwegian film Thale, where two male crime scene cleaners discovers a mythical woman (a "huldra") in the basement of a recently deceased man. She never utters a word, unable to tell her story, but thanks to a tape left behind, they soon learn that she's been held captive for decades. Soon the military forces and other creatures wanting to save their fellow huldra enter the scene, which means nothing good for our two anti-heroes.
