Sid and Nancy
(UK, biography/drama/music, 2003)
MA15+
Director: Alex Cox
Starring: Gary Oldman, Chloe Webb, David Hayman
What's it about?
The definitive biopic of Sid Vicious, bass player of the Sex Pistols, and his American girlfriend Nancy Spungen. The pair embraced the sex, drug and rock 'n roll lifestyle to the full, until both died when they were barely out of their teens, at New York's infamous Chelsea Hotel. Seven years later, an emaciated Gary Oldman gives a more-than-convincing performance as Sid, while Chloe Webb won critical acclaim for her unflinching portrayal of "Nauseating Nancy" (winning the part over Courtney Love, who ended up playing Nancy's friend Gretchen instead). "No future" indeed.
