What's it about?
Sebastián Lelio is a contender for best foreign language film for A Fantastic Woman, the story of a Santiago widow's defiant battle with her transphobic in-laws. The film is another complex, celebratory story of a woman rising above her 'lot', from a director who specialises in stories of female resilience. Gloria, his 2012 story of a 58-year-old divorcée's optimistic efforts to find love on the singles scene is another gem. And yes, it features that song. (Fiona Williams)
