What's it about?

The story, told in flashback, of two very different young British sprinters competing in the 1924 Summer Olympics. Eric, a serious Christian Scotsman, believes that he has to succeed as a testament to his undying religious faith. Harold is a Jewish Englishman who wants desperately to be accepted and prove to the world that Jews are not inferior. The 1981 film was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won four, including Best Picture and Best Original Score for its unforgettable theme song by Vangelis.

The Hours

What's it about?Based on the Pulitzer-prize winning novel by Michael Cunningham, The Hours employs Virginia Woolf's classic novel and central character, Mrs. Dalloway, as its foundation and inspiration. Spanning three different eras, during one day, the film focuses on the parallel lives of three women joined in their depression, alienation, and search for love. Nicole Kidman gives here one of her best performances portraying Virginia Woolf, and subsequently won the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Little Miss Sunshine

Young Abigail Breslin plays pudgy, bespectacled, seven-year-old Olive, who aspires to take home the coveted Little Miss Sunshine crown at an upcoming beauty pageant. Her dysfunctional family sets out on an interstate road trip to ensure her a clear shot at realising her dreams. Winner of two Academy Awards in 2007, including Best Supporting Actor (Alan Arkin) and Best Original Screenplay.

Juno

What's it about?

This quirky indie won the Oscar for Best Screenplay, which was penned by former stripper turned journalist and screenwriter Diablo Cody. Ellen Page plays Juno, a smart and sarcastic 16-year-old who falls pregnant after an unplanned encounter with her best friend Bleeker (Michael Cera). After considering an abortion, she decides instead to embark on a search to find the "perfect couple" to take on parenting responsibilities only to find life isn't quite so simple.
