Snatch Review

A carbon copy of Guy Ritchie's geezer hit, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, albeit well-directed.

Franky Four Fingers robs an Antwerp jeweler of a priceless diamond but he gets nabbed by minions of Ukranian mobster Boris The Blade. Franky`s boss, Avi, wings in from New York to find the diamond, and meanwhile Cockney gang boss Brick Top is involved in staging a fixed fight with Irish gypsy Mickey as fall guy - the trouble is, Mickey doesn`t fall...

Guy Ritchie`s follow up to Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is very much the formula as before - a convoluted series of parallel stories involving colourful low-life types with pacing that resembles a speeding bullet. There`s a feeling of deja vu about the film, but Ritchie`s skills as a director, and his talented and willing cast, keep things interesting.

Brad Pitt is especially good as the gypsy whose accent is so thick no-one can understand him; and Vinnie Jones is dynamite as ruthless gunman Bullet Tooth Tony. The mixture of ultra- violence - shootings, stabbings, beating, dismemberment - and humour may sit better with some audiences than with others.
