Spacey proves what a good actor he is...

A very ponderous slog to a not very surprising conclusion...

A suspicious looking stranger is arrested at New York`s Grand Central Station and taken to the Psychiatric Institute of Manhattan. He says his name is Prot, and, under questioning from Dr. Mark Powell, he claims he`s from the planet K-Pax, which is in a galaxy far far away. Powell, whose family life isn`t quite what it should be, is certain that Prot is really a seriously disturbed man, and, under hypnosis, gets the patient to reveal a few mysterious facts which lead him to find out the truth about the alienated mystery man.

This strange and rather silly film boasts a couple of fine performances from a couple of formidable actors - Kevin Spacey as the apparent alien, and Jeff Bridges as the shrink. But it`s a very ponderous slog to a not very surprising conclusion, and though extremely well made by director Iain Softley, it`s hard to become very interested in this overlong exercise in psychiatric mumbo jumbo.
