Star Trek takes over Facebook with six anniversary emojis

The Star Trek Facebook page has also released a minute and a half commemorative video in celebration.

It’s been 50 years since the Enterprise first captivated audiences with their journeys to infinity and beyond.

And while SBS is celebrating with a week-long marathon, Facebook has marked the milestone by going boldly where no reaction emoji has gone before.

Facebook users in the US and Canada wanting to like, love, or laugh over posts on September 8 were presented with the faces of Captain Kirk, Spock, Geordi and a Klingon.
“In our custom set of reactions, ‘like’ stays true to form but with a little added sparkle, and ‘love’ is represented by the Vulcan salute,” Facebook’s Lindsey Shepard explains.

“We also think it makes sense that Kirk, as the first captain, is first up after ‘like’ and ‘love,’ and that a Klingon should be the ‘angry’ reaction given that they are easily agitated.”

Unfortunately the designs have not been made available in Australia, but fans Down Under can enjoy this compilation video shared on the Star Trek Movie Facebook page this morning.
