The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – Lisa Hensley
The sequel to the incredibly popular children's fantasy adventure film “The Chronicles of Narnia” picks up a year later with the story of Prince Caspian.
In desperate trouble after his wicked uncle tries to have him killed, young Prince Caspian summons back the four children to Narnia. What they find there saddens and confuses them greatly. In Narnia time, some 1300 years have passed and their precious friend, the great lion, Aslan, has not been seen for a thousand years.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is visually stunning. With over 1600 CGI shots used in the film, no expense has been spared to give the audience an incredibly visceral experience in the cinema.
The opening sequences were thoroughly engaging. The pace and tone terrific, making it far superior to its predecessor. And the performance from London stage actor Ben Barns as Prince Caspian is really strong.
Yet I was somewhat disappointed as the film unfolded. It became quite flat in the middle. Too many fight sequences drenched in CGI and a lack of satisfactory character development.
It is a little brutal and scary in parts and the story is quite convoluted so I am not really sure which audience the film is meant for.
I wasn't much of a fan of the first Narnia film and I remembered why. The four kids are rather awkward in their roles. Yes they have improved since the first film, but they are not nearly has believable as that Harry Potter mob.
The filmmakers have spared no expense in bringing C.S. Lewis's story to life. The Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian rates 3 stars.
