Warwick Thornton's portmanteau of re-enacted ghost stories The Darkside, has been selected to screen at the prestigious Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in April.

The Darkside is a collection of first-hand accounts of supernatural encounters from across Australia, with transcripts brought to life by well-known Australian actors. It will screen in the Mystery, Myth and Legend program.

After premiering at the 2013 Melbourne International Film Festival, The Darkside was released in Australian cinemas in November 2013 and took in $25,000.

Other Australian documentaries set to screen at Hot Docs are: Clare Young’s portrait of Jane Campion, From the Bottom of the Lake (in the Next program); Kitty Green’s look at the lives of Ukraine's topless feminists, Femen, Ukraine Is Not a Brothel (in the Special Presentations program); and a short documentary about the lonely husband of a dementia patient, Ghost Train, by James Fleming and Kelly Hucker, (in the Love, Factually program).

Hot Docs takes place from 24 April – 4 May 2014.
