The new Disney animated feature is, above all, terrifically funny. Set at the time of the Incan civilisation in South America, it tells the story of the downfall of the obnoxious Emperor,Kuzco, whose scheming adviser, Yzma, wants to seize power for herself. Fortunately forKuzco, Yzma`s inept off-sider, Kronk, instead of poisoning him, accidentally turns him into atalking llama. Stranded in the wilds of the jungle, Kuzco is helped by the kindly Pacha, apeasant he`d treated badly when he was Emperor....clipD
THE EMPEROR`S NEW GROOVE was originally conceived as a more serious film aboutthe ancient Incans, but at some point the happy decision was made to lighten it up, to junkmost of the songs - thanks goodness! - and to concentrate on the fun. David Spade, whovoices the egotistical ruler who is taken down a peg or two, is very funny, and so is EarthaKitt, perfect as the maniacal Yzma, while John Goodman and Patrick Warburton lend solidsupport as the good-hearted peasant and the dim-witted muscle man respectively. In termsof comedy, the film owes a lot to Tom and Jerry, but it hasn`t been a huge commercialsuccess, which is a pity. Animation fans certainly shouldn`t miss it.
