It has been lauded by critics and showered with Emmys, so it’s perhaps no surprise that The Handmaid’s Tale, an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s 1985 dystopian novel, has been nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for (what we consider to be) its most prestigious TV prize: Best Television Series – Drama.

For their roles in the series, Elisabeth Moss (best actress in a TV series) and Ann Dowd (best supporting actress in a TV series, limited series or TV movie) have both been nominated for an award.

The show is up against several other programs. We’re sure they’re of perfectly reasonable quality, but we’ve actually never heard of them…

The Crown (what?)

Game of Thrones (sorry, but thrones aren’t a game)

Stranger Things (what’s strange is that we’re only hearing about this show now)

This Is Us (and who exactly is this “us”?).

So it’s probably safe to say that THT will win. Convincingly.

Same for Moss and Dowd, who are up against, again, a list of completely anonymous people on TV shows that may as well not exist. Except, of course, for Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe and Michelle Pfeiffer, who is a global treasure.

See you on the red carpet!
