The Missing Gun Review

In a small Chinese town, the local cop wakes up one morning to find his gun is missing - and that`s a pretty serious matter. The night before he was at a wedding and he got terribly drunk - he can`t even remember how he got home. Somebody must have stolen his gun, but who? When his first girlfriend is found shot dead, the unfortunate cop is immediately suspected...This first feature from 31 year-old writer-director Lu Chuan is a bit all over the place - a murder mystery slash comedy, with a few surreal moments thrown in, the styles don`t always mesh terribly well. Chinese superstar Jiang Wen gives a strong performance as the cop who finds himself in very big trouble but the murder mystery plot, unusual for a Chinese film, isn`t all that satisfactorily resolved.
