The Two Escobars

While rival drug cartels warred in the streets and the country's murder rate climbed to highest in the world, the Colombian national soccer team set out to blaze a new image for their country. What followed was a mysteriously rapid rise to glory, as the team catapulted out of decades of obscurity to become one of the best teams in the world. Central to this success were two men named Escobar: Andrés, the captain and poster child of the National Team, and Pablo, the infamous drug baron who pioneered the phenomenon known in the underworld as ‘Narco-soccer’.

Dian Fossey: Secrets in the Mist

As day broke on December 27, 1985, cries of horror cut through the early morning mist. Wildlife legend Dian Fossey was found dead in her cabin on an isolated mountainside in Rwanda, the victim of a brutal machete attack. The world-famous icon fought to save mountain gorillas from extinction, but made dangerous enemies who may have taken her life.

Lady Jane Grey: Murder of a Child Queen

Helen looks at the ‘Devise for Succession’, written in Edward’s own hand, containing two words that sealed Jane’s fate. She also talks to experts about two new letters, first discovered in 2013. These fascinating letters give us additional information about Jane’s wedding and new evidence about whether Jane was beaten by her parents.

Police Custody: "Human Cargo"

A large refrigeration lorry is stopped at Toddington Services North full of migrants that have been trafficked to the UK. The Lorry driver is under arrest and comes to Luton. The fifteen migrants are taken to three different stations because of capacity - five at Luton, five at Stevenage, and five at Kempston. A month later a member of the public alerts the police of possible illegal immigrants on the roadside near Toddington Services. A response team picks up three men and takes them to custody.

Cold Justice

Seventeen-year-old Gomeroi teenager Stephen Smith was the most popular boy in school with the world at his feet before it was cruelly snatched away. The teen was found dead on train tracks outside the north western NSW town of Quirindi in 1988 after attending a party. Despite his family being told by police during the initial investigation to "get over it", they have always maintained he was murdered; now Cold Justice finds information to support their concerns.
