It`s maybe no accident that David Schwimmer was one of the Executive Producers of Kissing A Fool, in which he also stars. In the film he`s Max, a sports commentator on television, the darling of all the single females around town. But he`s a butterfly. His friend Jay - Jason Lee - in contrast is in a state of prolonged agony over the breakup of his relationship. Jay is an author. And he gets a bright idea. To fix Max up with his new editor, Sam - Mili Avital. She`s European raised--a sophisticate, into books and literature. Why would Jay think she would get on with Max?To tell you the events of this film would be to mire you in clich?s. It`s like a television sit-com - like Friends - has been transposed to the big screen with only the boring people in it. I am not interested in David Schwimmer`s character Max, or Jay for that matter, or Sam. If I want to watch television I`ll turn on the tube. I want the big screen for bigger reasons. Maybe I`m snobbish but if I`m going to see a romantic comedy then I want a bit of romance and a few laughs with people I like up there in 35mm. Kissing A Fool was co-written and directed by Doug Ellin who had written and directed a couple of short films for his pal David Schwimmer. I think you need a better reason to fund a major motion picture. This is one of my most vacuous, least favourite films of late.
