Not since Snakes on a Plane have film titles inspired as much wonder as Piranha 3DD and Wolfcop. Two gloriously self-aware films that mash comedy with B-grade monster movie elements and plenty of gore.
There’s an art to making a film that confidently excels at committing to a concept with no aspirations of quality or prestige filmmaking. Sometimes filmmakers just want to have a wolfcop ripping someone’s face off, or prehistoric flesh-eaters massacring a water park. These films are trashy fun that are best viewed in large groups or with a friend who provides the best live commentary.
Piranha 3DD (2012)

After the events at Lake Victoria in Piranha 3D, the pre-historic school of blood-thirsty piranhas make their way into a newly opened waterpark and the waterslides run red.
As the innuendo of the title suggests, Piranha 3DD goes… bigger. Riffing on the escalation between the original Piranha (1978) and Piranha 2: The Spawning (1981) – the chomping fish sprout wings and fly in the sequel – Piranha 3DD goes wild with its plot, while also giving a nod to the water park setting of Jaws 3-D. There’s the added bonus of appearances from Christopher Lloyd, Gary Busey, Clu Gulager, David Hasselhoff and Ving Rhames – who has shotguns for legs – to round out the madness of this sequel.
Wolfcop (2014)
An alcoholic cop, Lou Garou (Leo Fafard), works in the small town of Woodhaven. When reports start coming in of occult activity, Garou investigates and gets caught up in a ritual that turns him into a werewolf; the wolfcop is born!
With the tagline ‘here comes the fuzz’, it’s hard to resist the ludicrous charm of Wolfcop. Even Lou’s drinking makes him stronger as he pulverises anyone who gets in his way. Wolfcop merrily indulges its bloodletting with outstanding practical gore effects to give it an old-school feel. The plot is outrageous and draws inspiration from conspiracy theories, black magic and buddy cop movies, but I know what you’re thinking: ‘Cam, you had me at WolfCop!’
