Another film intended for the very young is Thomas and the Magic Railroad based on the books written by the Rev. W. Awdry for his son about talking steam engines, one of which is Thomas who in this particular story is helping to restore the magic of Sodor where the steam engines live. Alec Baldwin plays Mr. Conductor whose supply of gold dust is running out, Peter Fonda plays the grandfather of young Lily - Mara Wilson - he`s restoring an old train that will play an important role in defeating the mean intentions of the evil train Diesel. Overly convoluted in terms of plot, particularly for its intended audience Thomas and The Magic Railroad falls a fair way short of the sort of entertainment relished by the under 5`s and it`s a bit too cutesy and sweet. The animation is basic, in comparison to what we`re used to seeing on the big screen these days and there`s a distinct lack of exhilaration in the magic.
