Rise of the Raven
The story of Janos Hunyadi is the epic tale of a hero born into modest circumstances, who, in 1456, with relentless determination and against all odds, vanquished the much larger Ottoman army, halting its drive to conquer the Vatican and overrun Western Europe. In so doing, Hunyadi not only shaped the history of Hungary, but that of all Europe.
This 10-episode mini-series is based on the novels of historical fiction written by Mór Bán, which have been best sellers in Hungary since the first volume was published over ten years ago. These books provide rich and unique insight into the dramatic conflicts of 15th-century Central Europe and the Ottoman Empire.
Intended for a worldwide audience, this series will follow the life of Hunyadi from his childhood as the son of a lowly court knight and early years as a reckless daredevil soldier,
to his mercenary years in Milan and his steady rise to becoming a powerful warlord and the Governor of Hungary.
With a visually striking contemporary approach, the series will chronicle his lifelong struggle against the ever-expanding Ottoman Empire as well as his enemies at home.
Rise of the Raven premieres Thursday 12 February at SBS On Demand.

A Spy Among Friends

Based on the New York Times best-selling book written by Ben Macintyre, the six-episode series dramatises the true story of Nicholas Elliott (played by Damian Lewis) and Kim Philby (played by Guy Pearce), two British spies and lifelong friends. Philby was the most notorious British defector and Soviet double agent in history. This is a story of intimate duplicity; of loyalty, trust and treachery. Philby’s deeply personal betrayal, uncovered at the height of the Cold War, resulted in the gutting of British and American Intelligence.
A Spy Among Friends premieres Thursday 19 February at SBS and SBS On Demand. Episodes air weekly on SBS starting Thursday 19 February at 9.30pm.

Australia’s Greatest Conman?
One man. One mystery. Our nation’s most baffling crime.
In the 1980s, John Friedrich led an elite sea and land rescue squad out of Victoria, winning an Order of Australia, top-secret government contracts and hundreds of millions of dollars in loans. But no one knew that John Friedrich was not who he made out to be, and his undoing revealed one of the most audacious scams in Australian history – an estimated $900 million in today’s value.
In Australia’s Greatest Conman?, Walkley Award–winning journalist and presenter Marc Fennell sets out to uncover the truth behind the man who deceived a nation. With exclusive interviews with Kerry O’Brien, Hugh Riminton and Richard Fidler, as well as Friedrich’s closest colleagues and fiercest rivals, Fennell reveals a story stranger than fiction in this gripping true-crime thriller that will keep audiences guessing until the very end.

Art of Joy

Based on the literary sensation and best-seller by Goliarda Sapienza, Art Of Joy is a visually rich period drama set in rural Sicily, which recounts the story of Modesta and her struggle to overcome her humble background.
We follow Modesta’s desire to change her destiny, first in a monastery and then at the court of a local noblewoman. Her unrestrained behaviour will collide with the rules of Southern society of the period, and Modesta will have to make extreme choices to get what she wants.
Art of Joy is an ode to self-determination centred on a liberated heroine, who challenges the rules of her world through sex, knowledge and power in the early 20th century.
Art of Joy premieres Thursday 26 February at SBS On Demand.
