The Extra is Jimeoin?s second attempt at a feature after 1999?s The Craic. In it he plays a hapless fella with big dreams of becoming a movie star. But the closest he gets to them is as a background extra on big budget American productions. Our wide-eyed guy falls in love, ?finds himself? and gets a whopping case of genital lice. Yep. That?s the movie right there. And you need to be over 15 to see it. They might be cutting out the bulk of their audience I reckon? You kinda know a film might be in trouble when the most protracted gag is set around the lead character catching crabs, but The Extra has no issue with going there which is a bit of a give away. A biting satire on the movie industry it?s not. A touching story about an ?ordinary? guy this is not. A movie filled with dud jokes, even worse performances and an utterly formulaic ?universal? story it is. Perhaps Jimeoin shouldn?t give up his day job just yet.
