U23D Review

For avid U2 fans, this is an absolute must! It is the first live action film to be shot, produced and screened with digital 3D technology. And it is really stunning.

Composed of footage from U2’s Vertigo Tour of 2006, it was decided to shoot the Latin American concerts for the film, as Bono and the band believed the South American audience to be similar in passion to their Irish countrymen.

The band performs 11 songs with 2 encores and for most of it you feel like you are up there on stage with them.

The depth of field and the camera angles are extraordinary, giving you unprecedented access to what it must be like to walk around the stage with U2.

Not only is Bono’s voice pitch perfect but it is fascinating to watch him perform. To witness the way he can reach, tens of thousands of people in such an intimate way.

5 cities, 18 cameras and a crew of hundreds were used to capture the band in 3D. An exhaustive but brilliant effort by directors Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington who manage to condense 100 hours of film into 85 mins of U2 heaven.

Whether you’re a fan of the music or not this is a pop cultural event that shouldn’t be missed. This incredible technology allows you on stage with U2 where you can feel not only the energy of the band, but also the passion of the crowd.

This is terrific entertainment that gets you up close and personal with the biggest rock band in the world. 4 stars.
