There are only days to go until the 88th Academy Awards, where Ennio Morricone’s score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight is the favourite to take out best original score. Shockingly, the legendary composer has never won the big award for one of his scores, despite five previous nominations (for Days of Heaven in 1978, The Mission in 1978, The Untouchables in 1988, Bugsy in 1992, Malena in 2001).
This has to be his year, doesn't it?
It's no secret that Tarantino is a super fan of Morricone, and he has used elements of Morricone’s music before. With The Hateful Eight, he scored a coup by securing Morricone's services for the superb soundtrack, which culminates in 'The Last Stage to Red Rock'.
In this video, watch Morricone conduct the Czech Symphony Orchestra at London's famous Abbey Road Studios - with Tarantino and Hateful Eight star Kurt Russell looking on.
