A new film from Becoming Jane, Kinky Boots director Julian Jarrold shows the young UK royals Elizabeth and Margaret sneak out of Buckingham Palace in 1945, for an anonymous night out in London.

A Royal Night Out is based upon real events, as the sisters really did convince their parents to let them out twice to celebrate the end of WWII. In a diary account of her anonymous nights out, 19 year-old Elizabeth wrote: "Out in the crowd again. Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly, Pall Mall, walked simply miles. Saw parents on balcony at 12.30am - ate, partied, bed 3am!'

Rupert Everett and Emily Watson play King George and the Queen Mum.

A Royal Night Out is set to be released in Australian cinemas on May 14, 2015, to coincide with the 70th anniversary of VE Day.
