The newly released trailer for He Named Me Malala begins with Malala Yousafzai's strong and calm voice saying: "There is a moment when you have to choose whether to be silent or to stand up."
Davis Guggenheim's new documentary tells the inspirational story of 17-year-old Malala Yousafzai, the young survivor of a brutal attack by the Pakistani Taliban.
Yousafzai was deliberately targeted by Taliban gunmen, who left her critically injured with a gunshot to her head, in a school bus attack. She had been singled out after speaking publicly about the importance of education for girls.
The documentary follows the story of her recovery and her determined international campaigning on the issue. In 2014 she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work, making her the youngest-ever recipient.
They shot me on the left side of my head. They thought that the bullet would silence us. I am the same Malala.
We see Malala at home with her family, reflecting on her extroardinary life.
"I am still an ordinary girl but if I had an ordinary father and an ordinary mother, then I would have two children now," she says.
When asked about boys she is embarrassed, but searches for images of Roger Federer on Google.
The title of the documentary comes from her father having named her after a girl who spoke out and was killed.
Guggenheim's director credits include An Inconvenient Truth, which won the 2007 Academy Award for best documentary, and Waiting for Superman.
He Named Me Malala does not yet have an Australian release date.
