What A Girl Wants Review

What a Girl Wants is a film adaptation of a 1950s play by British writer William Douglas Home, earlier filmed as The Reluctant Debutante starring Rex Harrison, Kay Kendall and Sandra Dee. It?s about a seventeen year old American girl, Daphne ? played with self aware winsomeness by Amanda Byrnes who?s determined to make contact with her aristocratic English father, Lord Henry Dashwood, Colin Firth. Launching herself on the class ridden uptight dowdy English the free spirited fun loving American manages to wean her father from All-Bran to Coco Pops. And this is about as deep and subtle as this film gets. Directed by Dennie Gordon who made Joe Dirt, What a Girl Wants is a truly uninspiring cinema experience.
