Who will Australia face in the Eurovision 2018 semi-final?

The pieces are starting to fall into place for this year’s competition.

We don’t yet know what Jessica Mauboy will sing at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal, but we do know the 17 countries she’ll compete against in the second semi-final on 10 May (the following morning in Australia).

Australia’s inclusion in the first half of semi-final number two was announced on 29 January at a ceremony that saw the official handover to Lisbon of host city status. You can watch the proceedings here:
Mauboy is grouped with contestants from Denmark, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia, San Marino and Serbia in the first segment of the second semi, while another eight countries (including Eurovision heavyweight Sweden) will perform in the second half. The final running order of each semi-final is still to be determined, with the full allocation below:

The semi-final allocation draw also determined which of the Big Five (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK) and host country Portugal, whose contestants all skip straight ahead to the final, will participate in the voting for which semi-final. We got France, Germany and Italy, with the latter specifically requesting to vote in the second semi.

With most of the entrants – including Australia – still to announce details of their songs, it’s hard to know if the draw will work in our favour or against us. Although, having one less country in our semi-final than semi-final one has got to count for something.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will air on SBS in May.
