Australia pledges aid to typhoon-stricken Philippines

In a media release dated September 16, 2018, Australia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Marise Payne, pledges support to the Philippines after Typhoon Mangkhut tore through the country.

According Ms Payne's released statement, Australia has promised to provide the Philippines with $800,000 worth of humanitarian aid and supplies, which include shelter kits, hygiene products, blankets and sleeping mats. The said aid will be given to up to 25,000 people in the northern regions of the Philippines.

The Philippine Red Cross will be responsible for distributing the supplies.

Aside from aid, Australia has also sent humanitarian experts to the country, and the embassies of both countries are working closely to help those affected by the typhoon.

Australia promises to give further assistance should the Philippine government ask for additional help.
