David Lynch's surrealist noir Mulholland Drive was named best movie made since 2000 in a poll published by BBC Culture, which saw 177 critics from 36 countries around the world listing their 10 favourite movies of the century so far. Wong Kar-waï's In the Mood for Love took second spot, followed by Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood.
Some directors fared particularly well, with three of their movies included in the list:
- Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight, Inception)
- Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, Tropical Malady, Syndromes and a Century)
- Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdom)
- Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice)
- Joel et Ethan Coen (Inside Llewyn Davis, No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man)
