A couple of years ago we caught up with director Maya Newell, as she sought crowdfunding completion funds for her documentary Gayby Baby, about kids raised by LGBT parents in Australia.

Newell was born to gay parents and says that she made the film out of frustration at not seeing families like hers represented on screen. She set out to tell the stories of "gaybies" like her, and found four kids raised by same-sex parents, who open up about what it's like to have two mums/dads, and how they cope when people tell them it's 'wrong'.

At the time, Gaybe Baby was one of the most successful projects funded by Pozible, with over 1,300 supporters kicking in money to help get it made. Additional funding has since come in via traditional sources such as Screen Australia and the Documentary Australia Foundation.

The movie's now complete, and premiered at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto in May. You can watch the trailer above, and catch teh film in full at the Sydney Film Festival in June.
