Milburn quits as Adelaide assistant coach

Darren Milburn has quit as an assistant coach of AFL club Adelaide, which has appointed former player Brett Burton as its high performance manager.

Adelaide assistant coach Darren Milburn has quit the AFL club, which has announced a host of changes to its football department - but not yet their next senior coach.

Milburn, who had been Adelaide's defensive coach, will return to his native Victoria while the Crows have appointed former player Brett Burton as high performance manager.

Burton, who had been in a similar role at Brisbane, replaces Nick Poulos, who has taken up a role with Australia's rugby sevens team ahead of next year's Olympic Games.

But the Crows are yet to appoint a head coach, with West Coast assistant Don Pyke considered the frontrunner. An announcement is expected next week.

Pyke is understood to head a field of candidates including John Blakey, Leigh Tudor and Scott Burns, who are all currently assistant coaches at other clubs.

The Crows are seeking a full-time replacement for Phil Walsh, who was allegedly murdered by son on July 3.

Scott Camporeale, who acted as caretaker coach after Walsh's death, has opted not to bid for the full-time head coaching position.

Other changes announced by the Crows on Monday include re-contracting ruck coach Matthew Clarke for another two seasons.

Two of the Crows' development coaches, Jarrod Cotton and Ian Callinan, have left the club with Heath Younie, who coaches Adelaide's SANFL team, elevated to development manager.
