A 48-year-old man has been charged with murder by detectives investigating the disappearance of Victorian mum Karen Chetcuti.
A woman's body was found in scrub in northeast Victoria on Monday afternoon and while it's yet to be identified police believe it's Ms Chetcuti.
She'd previously been missing from her home at Whorouly, near Wangaratta, for six days.
The 48-year-old suspect was questioned by homicide detectives in Melbourne and driven to the region on Monday before being charged with murder at an out-of-sessions court hearing around 1am on Tuesday.
He's due to face Wangaratta Magistrates' Court later on Tuesday.
The woman's body was found at the Buffalo Lake weir wall, near Myrtleford, about 1.35pm on Monday, Victoria Police have said in a statement.
Ms Chetcuti, 49, a mother of two teenagers, was last seen at the Whorouly Hotel at 7.30pm last Tuesday.
Police found the lights on at her home, with her bag and purse inside.
Ms Chetcuti's car was found burnt out in bush near Myrtleford on Thursday, sparking the search of the area.
Her children, aged 14 and 15, are staying with their father.
The 48-year-old alleged murderer was arrested alone in the Melbourne suburb of Ringwood on Sunday morning after a marathon pursuit through the city.
Detectives and forensic experts have searched his property, the nearby Ovens River and bush near where Ms Chetcuti's car was found in their search for clues.
The man was also questioned over his alleged involvement in a kidnapping reported on Saturday, but police have not said whether he is a suspect or the victim.
