Bennett feared worst before 30-6 NRL win

Broncos master coach Wayne Bennett says he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief after their 30-6 Saturday night NRL win over Manly.

Everything fell into place for Brisbane in their 30-6 NRL romp over Manly at a sold-out Suncorp Stadium.

Yet, Broncos master coach Wayne Bennett couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief after the five-tries-to-one rout on Saturday night.

Brisbane appeared at their all-conquering best when they regained top spot on the NRL ladder with their sixth win in seven games.

It is their best season start since 2005.

However, Bennett admitted he feared the worst before they ran out against the Sea Eagles.

"We needed to play better, otherwise we would have been on the crest of a slump I would say," Bennett said.

"But that didn't happen. We did play well.

"Overall we were much improved from last week."

Bennett was still scratching his head over their last round 30-28 loss at Cronulla, despite the huge strides made against Manly.

"It was just one of those games, no one saw it coming. I don't know what happened, but it did," Bennett said.

"It was important that we moved on. We've got Cowboys next week then Origin.

"We needed this game to get a bit of confidence."

Bennett backed hooker Andrew McCullough (hamstring) and second-rower Alex Glenn (calf) to join prop Adam Blair (suspension) in the Brisbane line-up next Friday against the Cowboys in Townsville.

"Adam Blair and Andrew McCullough are coming back hopefully next week and they have quality players around them," he said.

"We think they will all be right to play."
