Fisherman's body found off Botany Bay

The body of a 79-year-old rock fisherman has been found floating one kilometre offshore at Botany Bay.

The body of fisherman has been found floating off Botany Bay some 12 hours after he went missing while rock fishing.

NSW Police say the man's body was located one kilometre from the shore before 11am on Sunday.

The man is yet to be formally identified but authorities believe it's a 79-year-old fisherman who vanished from rocks at Dover Heights on Saturday night.

Police were called to the fishing spot about 9.30pm after another fisherman found the man's belongings.

His car was discovered nearby and when police visited his home family members confirmed he was missing.

"A brief will be prepared for the information of the coroner," a NSW Police spokesman said on Sunday.
