Priya Sharma: Hinglish dreams on wheels

Priya Sharma didn't realise how far her Hindi content would travel when she first tried it. "My Hindi is a bit childlike," she shares. Having a mother tongue that is not widely spoken outside of a small, intimate circle is a common thread among children of the diaspora. But it was embracing this exact aspect of her identity that inspired her to dream of a life beyond the binaries of a 9-5 job or a mortgage. SBS Spice visits Priya at her home to bring you this pro-dreamer episode. Hosted by Suhayla Sharif.

Trading her engineering blueprints for a life of adventure on the open road, Priya Sharma is currently transforming a van into a cosy home with her partner, Sid. Feeling unfulfilled in her traditional career, she now captivates the world with her 'Hinglish' content, often sparking playful mimicry on the Indian internet.

Balancing her Indian roots with her Australian upbringing, Priya's foray into online content creation has become a journey of rediscovery, reigniting her passion for language and culture preservation.
There are two sides of me. There is the Priya who grew up in Australia and the Indian Priya who grew up in Australia. When I [speak in Hindi] I unlock this part of myself that is more myself than I ever thought.
Priya Sharma on reconnecting with Hindi
SBS Spice takes an intimate journey with Priya as she and Sid breathe new life into their van, exploring the rich tapestry of growing up Indian in Australia and rekindling cultural connections through language and storytelling.
