Are selective schools the answer to the decline in STEM students?

Australia is undergoing digital disruption that is set to dramatically change the workforce. Yet with a continued decline in student uptake of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) school subjects Australia will need to look overseas to bring in skilled migrants as we prepare the next generation for the digital future.


However there are students who are interested in these subjects but the opportunities are not there.

 

Fares Rayis is one of the gifted students attending John Monash Science School.

 

We spoke to his mother Samah Sabawi about the difficulties and the difference between this selective school and the public schools.
