Australia offers the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NIDS) to support people with permanent disability.
This program is now undergoing new changes beginning in NSW and to be followed by other states later.
Beneficiaries of this program will be able to identify the services they need to attend and the decision-making process will not be left to GPs alone anymore.
According to NIDS’s website, NSW government has launched a new pilot program to help defendants with a cognitive impairment charged with low-level offences with services to address the underlying causes of their abusive behavior.
Occupational therapist Dr. Yasser Mohammed will tell us more about the changes on this program.
