Asylum seekers who seek to come to Australia for a health assessment under new medical evacuation laws will be sent to Christmas Island. 

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is set to announce the policy today when he visits the island. 

He says the measure will ensure the safety of Australians, with the transfers to Christmas Island likely to include 57 men on Nauru and Manus Island.
