Every year, Australia celebrates National Volunteer Week from 8 to 14 May.
Volunteering Australia, as the peak body for volunteering in the country, are strongly urging people to sign a petition to retain current funding to protect Volunteering Support Services. The petition will be presented to Senate in June.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, more than five million Australians participate in voluntary activities and programs. According to Flinders University, these volunteers contribute each year about $ 290 billion to the Australian economy and to charity and social work. Volunteering Australia says that funding cuts will threaten the continuity of many voluntary support services and weaken volunteering work in Australia.Ms. Dalal Sleiman has volunteered for 22 years since she arrivedl in Australia at several organisations in Sydney.
