Australian authorities have issued up to 20 arrest warrants for citizens who travelled to Syria and Iraq to fight with the self-proclaimed Islamic State.

It's understood the Australian Federal Police is working with Turkey, where 26-year-old Melbournian Neil Prakash is in custody, to catch the terror suspects.

Mr Prakash is an alleged I-S facilitator who has been linked to a New York jihadist Munther Saleh, who hoped to plan a massacre in Times Square and blow up the Statue of Liberty.
