The family of the Australian who is serving five-year imprisonment in UAE called for the government intervention to grant him a pardon on health issues grounds.

Sydney-based- brother, Adil Abbas, says that his brother Naim is suffering from depression after his appeal was rejected by a UAE court.

"Naim is also diabetic and is suffering from three ulcers," Mr. Adil Abbas told SBS Arabic24.

In November 2018, a UAE court found Mr. Naim Aziz Abbas guilty of conveying "confidential" information about Dubai Roads and Transport to Qatar, passing five-year imprisonment sentence on him.

65 years old Naim Abbas was arrested by the UAE authorities in October 2017 and stood a trial in 2018.

The family appealed to the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to intervene to grant Naim a pardon from the UAE authorities.

Iraqi-born Australian Naim Abbas was a resident of UAE for more than five years where he worked for the Dubai Roads.
