The Centre for Counter Hegemonic Studies held a conference titled: 'After the War on Syria: Imperialism, Independence and Human Rights Conference". This two-day conference aimed at examining different issues relating to the conflict in Syria such as self-determination in Syria and the wider region, corporate media presentations of the war, the 'humanitarian war' narrative, the geopolitical repercussions and the roots of the war on Syria.

In this conference, the idea of Federalism as a political system capable of protecting minorities will be discussed in a paper titled Effect on Syrias cultural diversity. Lecturer Nicholas Al jeelo from University of Melbourne will talk about the danger facing ethnic minorities in Syria and strategies to keep them safe and flourishing in their homeland
